Norris Edges Out Oscar Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice
The British driver has beaten his teammate at all of the previous five grands prix.
The McLaren driver edged out team-mate and title rival Oscar Piastri for the fastest time in the final moments of practice at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
Norris, who seized the points lead from Piastri by one point after his victory in Mexico City two weeks ago, beat the Melbourne-born driver by 0.023 seconds.
Until that point, Oscar Piastri had been the leading McLaren during the running before the sprint shootout due at 18:30 GMT.
Max Verstappen, the sole remaining contender in realistic title contention, lying 36 points behind Norris, was classified in 17th place as his Red Bull team followed a unique setup.
His teammate Yuki Tsunoda was the only driver to crash, if briefly, when he rotated at Turn Four soon after starting.
Tsunoda lost control over the exit kerbs before sliding over the run-off area, and was blessed to escape with just a light touch of the barrier.
The Ferrari of the seven-time champion also spun, at the conclusion of the session, spinning around through the fast downhill Mergulho turn leading to the final bend on to the main straight.
The veteran wrapped up in 19th place, trailing team-mate the Monegasque driver.
The McLaren pair were significantly quicker of the rest of the field, with Nico Hulkenberg's car third fastest, over half a second slower than the Australian's time.
Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso was fourth fastest, with the Sauber of Gabriel Bortoleto ahead of Mercedes' George Russell and Alpine's Pierre Gasly and the Williams of Carlos Sainz.
